Black Lives Matter.

America is still in upheaval. As more instances of police brutality against the BIPOC community come to light, the revolution against the systematic oppression of racism grows stronger and louder. As we mourn those we have lost, we must also learn to listen and uplift. This is especially true in the entertainment industry, where generations of American artists of color have been ignored, tokenized, or silenced - writers, actors, directors, developers, technicians & designers whose voices are now becoming amplified, some for the first time.

It is on each of us to identify and dismantle this ingrained network of white hegemony.
Today and every day.

  • Use my inherent privilege as a white person to fight for people of color wherever and whenever I can.

  • Promote artists and storytellers of color.

  • Retire texts written by white men from my pedagogy, replacing them with works by authors of color.

  • More thoroughly research other cultures in my design work, consulting BIPOC individuals for their guidance and perspective to avoid appropriation.

  • Continually educate myself, and grow from my mistakes. As Maya Angelou said, "When you know better, do better."

To this end, I pledge to:
